Queen and Slim

Queen+and+Slim

A first time dinner date, between a African American man and woman, turns into a run from the police across the country. They do everything possible to get out of the country after they shot and killed a white police officer. However, they run into obstacles along the way. The movie Queen & Slim, released November 27, 2019, is one of the best movies of 2019. The story effectively shows the harsh reality of African Americans being pulled over by police officers because of racism, while keeping me at the edge of my seat. I would highly recommend seeing this movie.

Queen, a criminal defense attorney, is very head strong and pushes Slim to run when he first doubts the idea. Slim is a family man, which causes him to hesitate running from the law with Queen. They are both black, but have two different dynamics. In addition to the movie serving as a call to police brutality in America, the movie also serves as a slow and intense love story.

While they are on the run, they seek help in New Orleans from Queen’s uncle, Uncle Earl, who is a pimp. He hides them from the police until they have to run away again. They decide to flee the country to Cuba.

I highly recommend seeing Queen & Slim, as it is an entertaining and powerful representation of black America. It is emotional, compelling and suspenseful.
