Giving Back
April 25, 2019
National Honor Society is doing their part for the community. On March 16th a few of the senior NHS members decided to volunteer at St. Pius. Every saturday St. Pius accepts volunteers to help out with their soup kitchen. Not only does NHS members volunteer to help people, but it also gives them a chance to bond.
“I volunteered at St. Pius because I enjoy giving back to the community through volunteer work. It is also an annual event that NHS hosts. St. Pius’ Soup Kitchen is a year thing and it is a way to bring the NHS members together and collaborate with each other.” said senior NHS President Guetzemany Guardado.
When they first arrived the volunteers started to organize the boxes of food in the food pantry. While it wasn’t an easy task they really enjoyed working together to find a way to fit everything on the shelves.
“I enjoyed sorting out the pantry with the members the most because it gave us an opportunity to open up to one another and work together for making a difference.” said Guardado
Once they completed their task the NHS members were treated to breakfast by St.Pius along with hot chocolate. After they ate and conversated the NHS members started to line up behind the tables with the food and drinks to help serve the food to those who came in. The room quickly began to fill up as the doors opened, but before any food was served the room broke out into prayer.
After serving the food the NHS members and those who came by themselves felt like they made a difference and enjoyed doing so.
