On the Road to Success

Twenty-one seniors, including Jacqueline Ortiz woke up as early as 6:00 a.m in the morning to go to Onsite, an event organized by Chicago Scholars. This event gives the seniors the opportunity to meet their prospective colleges and get acceptances as well as scholarships on the spot, and Ortiz was no exception.

Many seniors went into their interviews nervous, others went in confident and well prepared. Ortiz was not the only one who was nervous about being interviewed by her desired colleges, as she did not prepare but that didn’t stop her.

No, was not prepared for the interview, but due to this, I began to ask 2018 seniors about their experiences. After speaking with them I felt more confident when going into the interview process,” said Ortiz.

Despite feeling nervous she felt as if the interviews went well. She was awarded with acceptances and scholarship money from selective colleges. Chicago Scholars helped her with the application process and prepared her for the day.

“With their help I have gotten accepted into four colleges: Iowa State University ($5,500/yr), New York Institute of Technology ($23,000/yr), West Virginia University (TBD), and Illinois Institute of Technology ($23,000/yr),” said Ortiz.

Ortiz is not one to let her opportunities slip away and has managed to get acceptances and scholarship money through her hard work at Phoenix over the past three and a half years. Ortiz will continue to aim higher and strive for more so she can have the best options possible when choosing her college.

Apart from Ortiz she was not the only one to receive acceptances or scholarship money. Other Chicago Scholars, including received awards:
