Heartbreak at Wrigley
October 25, 2018
The Chicago Cubs witnessed their season come to an early end in the first round of the playoffs this year. The Cubs suffered a tragic loss falling 2-1 in 13 innings to the Colorado Rockies in the do or die wild card game.
A wild card game can be intense for fans and especially players. This was the Cubs 2nd wild card appearance in the last four years. Their last appearance coming in 2015 where they blanked the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-0.
Many fans had high expectations for the Cubs this October. They were favorites to win the wild card game, but that dream came crashing down in the 13th inning. Colorado drove in a run to extend their lead, and the Cubs struck out in the bottom of the 13th inning in order to end the game.
The Colorado Rockies moved on to the next round of the playoffs only to be swept by Milwaukee. This leaves questions and concerns for the Cubs franchise that must be addressed this offseason
“I expected them [Cubs] to atleast get to the World Series because of the weak National League teams,”said senior Joel Cortes.
Cortes did have a valid reason to think the Cubs would end up with the second best record in the National League (95-68) but fell one game short.
There is always the offseason to look forward to and address many concerns such as, signing free agents and new coaches.
