Keep Hustling

Science fair is Known for keeping the brain active and keep the students active. This years there were six students who made it to city. These students were freshman Angela Ruiz, junior Stoykof Nunez, junior Efrain Colunga, senior Abigail Pio, junior Taylor Madison, and senior Alexandra Rivera. Out of these six only 3 made it to state.

“I have been competing in science fair for seven years. I feel proud of making it to State Science Fair. I am extremely thankful for the support that I have received from my parents, teachers, and friends,” Said Pio.

These students worked very hard and are still pushing to do more. Pio and Nunez both move on with their projects while Colunga made it with his paper.

“My project was to investigate if sealant protected wood absorbs more saltwater compared to freshwater. After learning about the natural disasters affecting locations such as Puerto Rico and Texas, this purpose was developed to verify if ocean water (salt water) would affect structures more,” said Pio

They are have a lot of people to thank for getting them to where they are. They all had a Science teacher help them out whether it was Mr.Carroll, Mr.Bernthal, Dr. Jaji, Mrs.Tobias or Mr. Surina.

“I would like to thank my father for helping me conduct this experiment and paying for all the expenses.  I would also like to thank my mother for always motivating me to do my absolute best, to keep organized, and to always think critically.  Next, I would like to thank Dr. Jaji, Mrs. Tobias, Mr. Surina, and Mr. Carroll for supporting me since freshman year throughout my whole science fair experience.  Lastly, I would like to thank my friend, Stoykof Nuñez for helping me with the planning of this experiment,” said Pio.

This will also be Pio’s last High School science fair and has big plans for her future.

“I will attend Cornell University and my goal is to major in Psychology,” said Pio
