The Positivities and Negativities of Social Media

Social media has both positive and negative impacts on language and communication. Communication can be described as an act or a process between sender and receiver using words, sounds or symbols. Having the ability to communicate effectively is definitely the most important life skill to learn. Providing us the opportunity to not only understand, but to connect with the people around us. Social media is our link to sharing breaking news and to communicate with larger audiences from all over the world.
I believe that social media is good, because it can be used for things like getting in touch with a family member or friends from another state. It’s also a good way to stay up to date with the current events. However, there are also downfalls to social media. Cyber bullying has become one of the biggest problems and still is a major problem today. Facebook has become more about posting explicit and inappropriate things. For example, there are postings of fights sexual content, which Facebook was really built for staying connected with others. Social media is not good or bad, its balanced between both.
People are more unopened and think that it’s either good or bad. They believe that ist good simply because yes, you can connect with others. However, people also say it is bad, because it takes away from talking and meeting with friends and family in person. a It is mostly one sided with most people because they have a different view on it.
The problem with seeing it from only one side is that your bias gets in the way. I say that because we are forgetting all the viewpoints of this, instead we pick a side and go with it. I believe people should take a look at both sides, because it would give a better understanding of what we need to work on to make social media better and not have as many flaws.
Social media is both positive and negative. I believe we as people don’t consider looking at both sides. It could save a lot of controversy on this subject. If we keep focusing on one side, then how can we improve social media?Until then there will still be controversy on the subject until everyone looks at both sides.
