Early Bird Gets the Worm?

Early Bird Gets the Worm?

Since I was a kid, I was taught that the early bird gets the worm.
One should either always be on time or early if possible. These are the things
my family and everything around me taught me. I grew up living by that… until I got to high school. School shouldn’t start as early as it does because, the earlier someone wakes up, the faster they crash.

Yes, it is true that the earlier you wake up, the more time you have to prepare and get ready to take on the day, but school shouldn’t start as early as it does.

If someone wakes up at the time that many of my classmates and I do, which is 5:00 A.M., they too would know the constant struggle with sleep. We stay up doing work until we finish or eventually just fall asleep, just to wake up a couple hours later to shower and get ready for school. I have personally battled with my sleep during school only to end up falling asleep on the bus on the way home and missing my stop. These extremely early mornings have also made me give in to my sleep after I get home resulting in naps. Naps sound good, but they end up messing up my sleep schedule, worsening how tired I get in school.

Of even greater importance, all of this havoc ends up messing up your grades and overall focus in school. The less sleep you get, the more tired you are. The more tired you are, the less you focus. The less you focus, the less work you get done. The less work you get done, the lower your grade becomes. Sleep is very important and without enough of it, your life can spiral out of control.

Finally, people will still argue that all you have to do is do your work earlier and sleep earlier but it isn’t as easy as it sounds. Life gets in the way of everything, so it isn’t as if we have all the time in the world to get our work done after school. People have other things to do like work or help around the house.

School should start at a later time to give people the energy they need. With school starting later, students will be able to get their work done the day before or, if they didn’t have time, the day of since they’ll have more time in the morning.

Think of a world where there is no crankiness from lack of sleep and where there are less excuses of why work wasn’t done.
