“Insidious: The Last Key”

The finale from the series of “Insidious” finally arrived on January 05, 2018, introducing fans from the series to a new side of the horror movie as the movie centered on Elise Rainier(Lin Shaye), a parapsychologist, and her rollercoaster of a life as she deals with her traumatic childhood along with having a connection with the supernatural world. Viewers are introduced to Elise’s childhood as she grew up being able to interact with others from the supernatural world and having to deal with the aftermaths as her father punished her for her powers.
Elise’s connection with the supernatural world caused a strong demon to be set free, killing Elise’s mother, and also causing her to runaway at 16. As an adult Elise becomes a parapsychologist and helps families deal with demons or spirits in their homes. Until one day she gets a call from a man about a spirit in his house, yet the twist is that it is the same house that Elise grew up in. The movie continues demonstrating Elise’s journey with her 2 “psychekicks” to defeat the demon and set free souls.
The finale developed a different mood than the previous movies in the serious, as there was more of an emotional tone and sorrowful scenes. The movie demonstrated a wholesome story that a little girl went through growing up differently and how it continued to follow her throughout her life. That little girl, Elise, although going through many hardships was able to use her powers for good and not let her past deter her. Her journey with defeating the demons from her childhood, both the spirit and the hostility towards her dad, paved the way to seeing her mother again in the spirit world. Overall, out of five stars this movie would be a 4.5 for it’s incredible plot but the jump scares could have been scarier since after all, this is categorized as a horror movie.
