According to Webroot website, 40 million Americans regularly visit porn sites. Pornography can pose a danger not only to children but to society as a whole.

Senior Cynthia Bustos is anti-pornography.

“I know pornography can be dangerous. I believe it can build high sexual expectations for those who watch it,” said Bustos.

Studies show that adolescents exposed to high levels of pornography have lower levels of sexual self-esteem (Exposure to Internet Pornography among Children and Adolescents: A National Survey).

“I believe there is a problem with it. There have been cases in which one watching pornography becomes addicted,” said Bustos.

Pornography can be addictive in the sense that people like the feeling they get when they watch it. Porn watchers start looking for content that can excite them more. Eventually, they can get tired of screens and paper which can lead to attempting to act it out in the real world.

Marketwire, a news website, said that about 200,000 Americans are “porn addicts” and the numbers may rise as children find out about these explicit websites.

“Pornography should be regulated. Parents should have the option to allow their children to visit these websites at their homes,” said Bustos.

Another statistic from  Webroot also said that 34% of internet users have experienced unwanted exposure to pornographic content through ads, pop-up ads, misdirected links or emails. These advertisements can be provocative and could more frequent porn users.
