Animal Testing

February 10, 2017
Every year, many animals are mistreated while being used as test objects to see if a product is eligible for human consumption. Animals are injected, bathed, and tested with many chemicals. While they go through the process of the experiment, they are not given any pain relievers, so if they are in pain, they go through it without any relief. Animal testing is a method that should not be performed by scientists when testing a product for human consumption.
According to the article, “Should Animals be used for Scientific or Commercial testing,” they stated that, “… similar to human beings in many ways. Chimpanzees share 99% of their DNA with humans, and mice are 98% genetically similar to humans”. Although, testing on animals before a human being, can be much safer than putting the product on the display shelves where one doesn’t know it can be dangerous. While testing the product on an animal first, since animals, such as chimpanzees, tend to have similar DNA, chimpanzees will react to the product, either in a positive or negative way. The result to their reaction will reflect on how a human will react to it.
Animals have rights as well, just because they can’t speak our language, or communicate in other ways that show their suffering, does not make them less. Animals go through as much pain as anyone; they feel the pain. Testing on an animal, is similar to judging an individual who can’t speak if they are in pain, they still feel the pain, but they can’t inform one of it.
The article, “Should Animals be used for Scientific or Commercial testing,” stated that, “An ‘unscheduled DNA synthesis’ animal test costs $32,000, while the in vitro alternative costs $11,000”. This implies that animal testing causes our annual budget to decrease. Over 14 billion dollars are used for animal research, in hope of finding a cure for cancer, and other diseases for cures. Performing tests that do not involve animals or any living organism, costs much less to test than experimenting on animals.
Animal test results can be a detriment for scientist solutions to any cures. There has been research proving that animals can be very different from the human anatomy. Some animals react negatively to the chemicals in the product, but it is likely for the chemical to be beneficial to the human body. A mice can have negative side effects to a pill, while the pill can affect a human differently.
Animal testing is an essential part of scientists research to find cures, but animals can be affected greatly, being mistreated, without being fed or taken care of properly.Tube testing should be a persistent method to cure different diseases, instead of mistreating innocent animals.
