All the long hours of training and commitment has paid off for the Phoenix wrestling team as they were crowned conference champions in their last tournament at Crete Monee High school on Saturday January 7th . The wrestling team, which have a record of 18 wins and 1 loss, have been outstanding this season and wish to continue performing well until the end of the season.

Isaac Novoa, the captain of the team, was very pleased with the achievement.

“The team and I felt great because we were able to see that all of our hard work wasn’t meaningless,” said Novoa.

The wrestling team has always worked hard every season, and the team has improved greatly throughout the years, however, this year’s team is performing on another level.

“The team is definitely learning more and, in turn, are more committed,” said  Novoa.

The new coach, Mr. Currin, believes that it was the the quality of the team that made them champions.

“It was very fortunate with the team we have,” said Mr. Currin

Winning conference, however, doesn’t end there because Mr. Currin believes that his team can still perform on a state level.

“I am very excited, I expect us to win regionals, and we have a few wrestlers that can make it to state.”

There are huge expectations for the team, and they are surely determined to keep on winning. The wrestling team’s next match will be in two weeks where they will compete in a regional tournament.
