Bullying at Phoenix
January 20, 2017
It is estimated that in the world 3.2 million students are victims of bullying. Here at Phoenix Military Academy it is unacceptable to bully. However, students still are being bullied after they were told it was unacceptable.
Zulimar Guajardo and Emmanuel Ruiz, both seniors, report seeing bullying and at some extent reported being bullied.
“ I’ve been bullied before and it is not the most pleasant feeling in the world,” said Zulimar Guajardo.
This is why by the age of 14, 40% of girls report being bullied at least once. But, what can we do to stop bullying.
“ If we make teachers be confidential with information, we can have students go to them with their problems. This can work at a certain extent,” said Ruiz.
1 in 4 teachers see nothing wrong with bullying and will only intervene 4% of the time. Bullies are the problem, caused them to be bullies?
“ In my opinion, I think that a bully grew up in a not so healthy environment at home and it made them that way. Another reason why they might bully is to feel superior,” said Ruiz.
Cyber bullying is also a huge problem with social media being big nowadays.
“ We should stop cyber bullying if it involves the school in it. People can also erase their social media if they wished not to be bullied,” said Ruiz.
