The biggest derby in soccer ended with a 1-1 draw leaving Barcelona fans very disappointed. Barcelona played Real Madrid at their home stadium, Camp Nou,and while they looked like they were about to take the 3 points, Center back Sergio Ramos scored a header in the 89th minute to level the score.

The game was full of controversy as the referee did not call some clear penalty opportunities for both sides. On the 4th minute, center back Javier Mascherano fouled Lucas Vazquez and the referee said play on. Two clear hand balls against Real Madrid were also not called on the 11th and 39th minute, which stirred up the Barcelona team and the fans.

“I think that the referee was showing too much preference or favoritism to Real Madrid because he didn’t call the two penalties,” said senior Abraham Sanchez.

Throughout the whole game both Barcelona and Real Madrid looked dangerous with their attack and their strong defending. Many chances came from Real Madrid in the first half but many of their shots were at the goalkeeper or off target. The game was very tight until Luis Suarez opened up the score with a header on the 53rd minute from a free kick delivered by Neymar  . This put Barcelona in comfortable position as they looked to posses the ball more calmly.

The substitution of midfielder Andres Iniesta on the 59th minute contributed to Barcelona’s attack greatly. He created 2 chances for both Lionel Messi and Neymar but both their shots were off target, and both wasted chances costed the game for Barcelona because Real Madrid later scored a goal on the 89th minute to seal the game.

“I felt that Barcelona had the chance to win the game, but didn’t take the opportunities they had,” said senior Eduardo Macedonio

This game leaves Barcelona with 3 draws and 2 wins in their last 5 games, while Real madrid continue their unbeaten run this season. Real Madrid happily took the point from Camp Nou as they sit 6 points on top of the league. Both Real Madrid and Barcelona play in the Champions League this week as Barcelona plays Borussia Moenchengladbach on Tuesday and Real Madrid face Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday.
