Video Games Prove to be a Great Benefit

Growing up as a kid the cool thing to do was go outside, spend time with your friends, or go to arcades or ice cream shops. Now a day it’s the same thing, but the only difference is that it’s all inside the household.

As technology has advanced throughout the years the gaming industry blew up. Some of the popular gaming platforms are Sony PlayStation, Microsoft Xbox, and Windows PC gamers. Throughout all of this there are disputes that videogames are bad for kids. The truth is that there are more good things coming out of playing video games than bad. All people can argue is that playing video games makes the kids be more aggressive, do bad at school and have an unhealthy life.

Yes, all of that can be true, but the truth is that video games have very good effects on certain people that play. No one ever really talks about how video games actually exercise your brain just like reading a book, learning to play a piano, and or reading a map. It shapes your brain because not everything is just shooting or a pointless waste of time.

In addition, hand-eye coordination, fine motor and spatial skills are increased for those who have played video games for a long time. In shooting games, the character may be running and shooting at the same time. This requires the real-world player to keep track of the position of the character, where he/she is heading, his/her speed, where the gun is aiming, if the gunfire is hitting the enemy, and so on. All of these factors need to be taken into account, and then the player must then coordinate the brain’s interpretation and reaction with the movement in his/her hands and fingertips. This process requires a great deal of eye-hand coordination and visual-spatial ability to be successful.  Many researches have also said that adults with great hand-eye coordination have better surgical skills. In addition to all of this one  reason why plane fighters are so skilled is because of the hand-eye coordination they gained from playing video games.

Not only are video games helping hand-Eye coordination and developing your brain but also your quick thinking, helping analyze quickly and make decisions. This is basically a skill that every human being develops throughout their lifetime and people that play video games have been developing this skill for a while. There was a study conducted to see if action video games can train soldiers, for real combat situations since most of the decisions made in the games are made on the spot and they might be overwhelmed to what they would expect. In addition, the study suggests that playing action video games primes the brain to make quick decisions. Video games can be used to train soldiers and surgeons, according to the study.

Finally, teamwork and cooperation are developed when playing with others. This is a very important skill to acquire while playing video games, and you do not only need this to play cooperatively with people online, but to work with others in the real world. Everyone thinks that when people play videogames they isolate themselves from the world, but in reality it’s the opposite. You need communication with teammates and to make things better you make friends throughout the time you play and talk to them more. It doesn’t give you anti-social problems; you chose whether or not you want to change that. Video games actually help you communicate.

Video games are not bad unless you make them bad. They have many positive outcomes and yes they may have negative things too, but there are more positive than negatives. What are you going to do when you have to know how to play video games to attain a job?
