The Illinois Journalism Education Association (IJEA) hosts an annual competition judging the yearbook programs at different schools. There are different sections that schools can choose to compete in, and last year Phoenix chose to compete in the IJEA Yearbook Contest of 2015.

Once the judges were done rating the different schools’ yearbooks, the winners for each category were notified on January 7th, 2016.

After submitting their yearbook for the competition, Phoenix was awarded a total of seven awards, two of those awards which they placed in the top three.

Phoenix’s yearbook earned second place in theme development and third place in the divider pages category.

The yearbook was also awarded an “Honorable Mention” in the following sections: Coverage of the Year, Layout in Design Category, the Photography Category, Copywriting, and in the Sports Category.

“For the past few years we have done well in the contest and always look forward to the judges’ feedback,” said Ms.Comeford.

In March Ms. Comeford submitted entries for the IJEA Newspaper contest and hopes for more positive feedback.
