PT test at UIC

On Wednesday, February 17, a group of seniors at Phoenix Military Academy were taken to UIC to complete a PT test and an interview. This would allow the cadets to be eligible for a two year scholarship to attend either University of Illinois at Chicago, Chicago State University, or Northeastern Illinois University. The scholarship would cover the cost of tuition for two years, but the student would need to take ROTC at the university for at least two years.

“I think this is an excellent opportunity to go to college tuition free for two years. Plus I was planning on taking ROTC either way, so this is why I jumped at the opportunity for this scholarship,” said senior Felipe Sosa.

The PT test consisted of: one minute of push-ups, one minute of sit-ups, and a one mile run. For some students the hardest part of the application was the physical portion, and for others it was the interview.

“I think the hardest part for me was the interview. It was difficult because we did not have much time to prepare for it. I was trying my hardest to stay relaxed during the interviews because I did not want to stutter or mess up,”said senior Alexis Cervantes.

After the PT test and interview was over, the students were offered lunch from Jimmy John’s. After their lunch break a couple of presentations were given about the opportunities students can find if they attend their University.

“It was a great day. I had fun and got free food. Perfect,” said Sosa.
