Last year Barcelona made football history by winning all three major trophies possible and becoming the first team to do it for a second time. No other team had ever accomplished such a feat. The “treble” is considered by many to be the ultimate achievement in world football. It is only achieved by those teams that give hard work and dedication throughout the whole season. To win it back to back seems impossible but can Barcelona be the first team to do so? Many think that it is possible and I believe that with the same work and dedication it is possible.

Last year Barcelona started off the season poorly and saw long time rivals Real Madrid win 22 straight games in a row. Barcelona needed to act, and the 2-1 loss to Real Sociedad became the turning point of their season. From there on it was back to back wins for the “Blaugrana” and they managed to reach the Champions League final and the Copa del Rey final and they only needed one win to win the Liga BBVA.

The first competition that Barcelona had to win was the league where they went against the current champions and the team that took away the championship from them the year before, Atletico Madrid.  They won 1-0 through a decisive goal by Lionel Messi and were crowned Champions. Next came the Copa del Rey, where Barcelona was going up against Athletic Bilbao. They won the game 3-1 through an incredible performance by Messi. One of his two goals even was even nominated for the Puskas award which is given to the best goal of the year. Finally, Barcelona needed the Champions league to complete the treble. It was the moment that people were waiting for, the Champions League Final, the second most viewed sports event after the World Cup. Barcelona won the game 3-1 after an intense match. Thus, completing the historic treble.

Much of Barcelona’s success last season was because of their front trio Messi, Suarez, and Neymar. It is considered by many to be the best attacking trio of all time. Messi, Suarez, and Neymar (the MSN) is also the reason many sport experts believe Barcelona will win the treble again. When one underperforms the other continues to wreak havoc. Currently, Suarez is the joint top scorer leading with 19 goals while Neymar has 16. Messi has 12 but he was injured for two months. If they continue this way Barcelona will continue being favorites on their way to the three titles.

Barcelona is showing no signs of slowing down and continues to win game after game. Currently, Barcelona is at the top of the table leading with four points over Atletico Madrid with one game less. They are also in the semifinals of the Copa del Rey where they have already won the first game of two by 7-0. They have also qualified to the Champions League knockout stages where they are going against Arsenal in a game where Barcelona is the favorite to qualify.

There are those who believe that Barcelona are not capable of winning the treble again due to past failures by other teams.  History also goes against them when it comes to the Champions League due to the fact that no other team has ever won it back to back. This makes it possibly their hardest challenge this season. Anti Barcelona fans think that they will not be able to do it and many hope that they will crack under such high pressure.

Barcelona look to continue their winning ways and are definitely set for great things. After all, they have the best forwards and the current best player in the world Messi who just recently won the Ballon D’Or and is widely considered the “best of all time”. I believe that Barcelona is on the right track to win the treble again.
