For the past couple of weeks Sgt. Villarreal has been hosting Shadow Days, where eighth grade students come to Phoenix. The students attend classes and morning formation with current freshmen to see how their high school experience would be if they attended Phoenix the following year. This particular shadow day occurred, December 9, 2015.

Sgt. Villarreal, is the recruiter at Phoenix and has been with the school for about six years now.

“Do you think that the eighth grade shadow days are a success?”

“I always receive positive feedback from the students that come here to check out the school. I’ve been bringing students in at least three days out of the week now to shadow current freshmen,” said Villarreal.

Villarreal is very content with the shadows that have been visiting the school.

“I believe that each year we get better kids, they’re always getting better. The improvements each year are based on the students we’re bringing in and I’ve been very impressed with the kids that have shown an interest in Phoenix. I can say that we have a lot of great potential coming in,” said Sgt. Villarreal.

Eighth grader Mario Gutierrez, from Shields Elementary School said that he wants to attend Phoenix,

“It was pretty cool. I like that the school is small, and that there’s uniform. That way I don’t have to take the time to choose what I have to wear in the morning,” said Gutierrez,

Phoenix has a student body of roughly five- hundred students and class sizes with up to thirty eight students. Some students would prefer a large campus school, however, Gutierrez said otherwise.
“I actually enjoyed the classes, they seem like they’re actually learning in there. The students, seem to know what they’re talking about. I’d feel proud to be apart of the school and it’s student body,” said Gutierrez.
