Fallout 4 makes the mark

November 23, 2015
Fallout 4 is an open world action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. The game is the fifth major installment in the Fallout series and was released worldwide on November 10, 2015 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Fallout 4 ’s gameplay is similar to that of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, the previous two main entries in the series.
Fallout 4 takes place in the post-apocalyptic ruins of Boston, Massachusetts in the year 2287. The main character enters the world after being frozen in a cryogenic sleep chamber for over 210 years after the third World War that left the land in disaster. You must adapt to the way of the new Boston.
The game has clearly changed its ways from the previous game of Fallout with sharp, smoother controls and gives more options on how to tackle an objective, making the gameplay more tactical, especially with the variety of weapons and modifications to those weapons. The map structure is complex, giving the player many things to do. The lead developer of the game has clocked in over 400 hours of gameplay himself.
This game still gives the vibe of classic Fallout with the signature Power Armor on the cover and the mascot, Vault Boy , which gives a good feeling of nostalgia. With the things that have changed, they have also paid attention to detail on the little things even though the map size is huge.
Bethesda has also added new features to the game such as base-building, you’ll be able to have settler NPCs visit your base and set up stores to sell items, but will create enemies that will come to raid your base.
The only problem with the game to me is the frame rate seems to drop significantly at odd moments to 10-15 frames per second which is very problematic. Another conflict is since the world is vast, it also came with a lot of expected bugs that can even be game-breaking. Bethesda said that they solved these problems, but it seems that they’ve really did nothing.
Overall, I give this game 4.5 stars out of 5 because of the amount of stuff the player is able to do, but with that, came a lot of frustrating bugs.
