October 19, 2015
The Street League Competition was held in UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois, where eight male and female professional skaters from around the world came to compete and show their tricks, skills and momentum for the trophy and money.
On Sunday, October 3, 2015, juniors Yvonne Flores, her brother, Yvan Flores and her best friend, Haidy Delgado went to see their first skateboard competition and got to experience how it feels.
Yvonne started to get interested when her brother started to skate, which gave her the passion to start skating. She would skate around the block or go to the skate park to practice and improve her skills. When they went into Prosper Skate Shop on 26th street, they got free tickets to watch the world’s skateboard championship.
“I’ve been skating for almost three years and the experience was amazing, imagine being in a room with full of people that share the same passion as you,” said Yvonne.
Yvonne and her skating crew always hang out and skate around the block.
“Yeah, we were pretty excited, my little skate group,” said Yvonne.
There were a lot of famous professional skateboarders competing from around the world. Yvonne got to see some of her favorite skaters in the competition people like Leticia Bufoni from Brazil, Chaz Ortiz from Chicago and Paul Rodriguez from California.
“I couldn’t believe it when Leticia Bufoni won the competition, it was amazing because a female professional skater has won the competition, which was the first out of 6 female skaters to place first at the SLS female champion,” said Flores.
Flores bought a shirt as a reminder that she went to the competition and took a lot of pictures.
